Topic: How To Leverage the Media: The Nuts and Bolts of News and "Free Press"
This informative, fast-paced, entertaining and interactive presentation is
designed for business owners who want to increase their visibility and
presence in the news media. Participants will learn countless inside news
industry secrets that will help them to successfully write and pitch their
stories. They will be given insight into how reporters and editors decide
what is newsworthy. The workshop will focus on topics such as 7 ways to get
"free press", 6 ways to write outstanding press releases, 3 common pitfalls
of writers, the # 1 complaint of editors and reporters, proven methods for
developing relationships with the media and the importance of crafting a
strong message and image.
Presenter: Susan Young is the president of her own media relations company. The
3-year-old company is based in East Brunswick and helps businesses and
non-profits to make news by getting press coverage in print, radio and TV
news. They specialize in creating exclusive media projects and public
awareness/education campaigns. Susan is also a frequent speaker and trainer
on topics including "free press" and communicating with confidence. Susan
has spent her 20-year career in broadcast news and communications in the New
Jersey/New York media market. She was an award-winning radio news director,
reporter, writer and on-air anchor for ten years. She also served as Deputy
Director of Governor Christie Whitman's Office of Radio & Television in
Trenton. In addition, Susan has experience in the non-profit sector, and in
sales and marketing.
She has been featured on News 12 New Jersey and in the business section of
The Star Ledger. She has also been profiled in articles published in
Business News New Jersey, The Home News Tribune and US 1.
Cost: Pre-registered - $30 for members, $35 for non-members. Not pre-registered: $35 for members and non-members. Non-members may attend
with member at member cost. Payment at the event. Walk-ins are
limited due to space.
