Topic: "Self-Defense Strategies for Women"

Presenters: Angela Deitch, Principal of Angela Deitch Consulting and Corinne Lagermasini, Women's Anti-Violence Education instructor.

If a woman is the target of demeaning comments from a male co-worker or supervisor, she might complain of sexual harassment or gender discrimination. There is protection under the law. But what if you are a woman business owner and the male is a client, business prospect, or professional associate? Do you respond? Why or why not?

Sexual and gender-based violence, whether verbal or physical, can impact any woman at any time. If you have ever felt at a loss for words when confronted with sexually inappropriate comments or gender discrimination, or simply want to feel more physically safe in any environment, come to this workshop to learn how to script some new responses, and improve your assertiveness and your physical safety.

Co-presented by experts in sexual harassment consulting and self-defense education, this dinner meeting will equip you to better safeguard your emotional and physical well being.

Angela Deitch has presented strategic training workshops on avoiding sexual and other forms of harassment as a consultant to many corporate employers, such as Johnson & Johnson, Princeton University and American Reinsurance. Prior to launching her firm in 1994, Angela Deitch served as organization and management effectiveness consultant with the State of New Jersey, marketing director for Educational Technologies, Inc., and curriculum and instruction district coordinator for East Brunswick, New Jersey schools. She received her M.Ed. from Rutgers University following undergraduate studies at Douglass College and the University of Paris at the Sorbonne.

Corinne Lagermasini, a Master's of Public Health student at Temple University, has been teaching self-defense for WAVE for the past 3 years. Women's Anti-Violence Education works to empower women and girls with increased skills and options for responding effectively to violence. In this workshop Corinne will present effective, easy-to-learn self-defense techniques that any woman - of any size, age, or physical ability - can use to avoid, deter, resist, survive or heal from assault.
