Book Club Update

Eight bold women, all members of the Business Book Club of the Mercer chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners, met last month for a lively discussion of the current book club selection, "Bold Women, Big Ideas," by Kay Koplovitz. The meeting was held at the home of Arlene Schragger, of ads Public Relations and Marketing, in Ewing.

The book chronicles Ms. Koplovitz' career journey from selling cable TV services to founding and running one of the most successful cable television franchises in America, USA Networks. Her company was sold for $4.5 billion in 1997 but because she had no equity, Koplovitz didn't receive a dime of the proceeds. The experience was the catalyst that moved Koplovitz to start Springboard, a non-profit organization that prepares female entrepreneurs to raise venture capital money. Later, she founded her own fund, Angels for Equity, which provides funding for female owned companies.

The next NJAWBO business book club meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7 at 12:00 p.m. We will be discussing the new Gallup best seller, "Discover Your Sales Strengths: How the World's Greatest Salespeople Develop Winning Careers," by Benson Smith and Tony Rutigliano.
