President's Message

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "our great glory consist not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall". You probably have heard this before and even preached it in some form or another to your children, spouse, employees and peers. As business owners we have all experienced disappointment and even despair. What separates the true entrepreneurs from the "wannabes" is perseverance and the ability to keep going when the road gets bumpy. It is important to remember that anything worthwhile does not come without hard work.
The business climate over the last two years has been somewhat sluggish and our economy is still a little shaky. As Melanie Sablehouse said "small business is what will keep this economy moving." We need to stay focused and keep sharpening our skills -- especially our marketing ones. President Bush recognizes the importance of small business and is trying to assist with some tax relief packages. If you are not familiar with the President’s proposals I suggest you familiarize your self with them, and if it makes sense to you -- call your legislators and tell them to support it!
Without any question my greatest joy as president is recognizing our spectacular members with awards. This year I have added two to our list, they are the Pioneer Award and the Team Builder Award. In total I will be giving out 6 awards at our next meeting, make sure you are in attendance. For all you know you could be one of the award recipients. Someone recently asked me what I would miss most about being the President of the Mercer Chapter of NJAWBO, I answered "Everything!" Being President was without a doubt, a huge undertaking but one that I would do again in a heartbeat. I am so proud to be affiliated with all of the amazing women we have in our chapter. I thank you for allowing me to be your leader over the last two years. It was a life changing experience and one I will never forget.
P.S. Please keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers, they are still
very much in harm's way.
