Awards Committee
By Karen Hansen, NJAWBO-Mercer Awards Committee
Congratulations to Liz Scafa! Liz received a Teal Heart in late February at the Breakfast Meeting. When Lisa Snyder presented the Teal Heart to Liz, she cited the many ways in which Liz has contributed to Mercer Chapter in her three years as a member.
Even before she was officially a Board Member, Liz showed her interest and support by attending every board meeting, and she coordinated the meeting place at her company and arranged refreshments. She also frequently brought prospective members to the Chapter’s monthly dinner meetings in an effort to help the chapter grow.
Liz currently serves as Mercer Chapter Secretary. She has also stepped in to serve as Coordinator of the bi-monthly Breakfast Meetings, a position that involves coordinating the location and attendee list as well as researching discussion topics and then leading the lively discussions. In 2003, Liz served as Nominations Chair, tirelessly working to identify and then cajole qualified candidates to serve in numerous chapter positions. She is also on the Membership Committee and attends the bi-monthly New Member meetings to meet prospective members and encourage them to join NJAWBO. She has also been an active participant in Mercer’s annual planning meetings.
In addition to her NJAWBO activities, Liz is President of the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey, an organization formed to further the education and musical ability of students in middle school through high school.
Liz is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New Jersey and New York, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). She is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Liz speaks frequently on financial topics, and has twice been a presenter at the annual “Women and Money” seminar series sponsored by the Mount Ritter Group.
Until recently, Liz was a financial planner with Morgan Stanley. While there, she received the Morgan Stanley National Directors Award three years in a row. Liz left Morgan Stanley in late February 2004 to set up an independent financial planning practice through HD Vest Investments, Inc. She plans to focus on the entire financial picture of her clients – including management, education, retirement and estate planning, debt management, insurance, and other important financial services.
Congratulations on receiving a Teal Heart, Liz, and good luck in your new venture!
As a Teal Heart winner, Liz is eligible for the 2004 Nancy C. Righter Award.
